About This Book iF you Give a Mouse a Cookie

There are only two characters in this simple story. The story is told by a narrator with neither character ever speaking. After the mouse accepts the cookie, he requests a glass of milk. Who wouldn’t? The little boy shares all that he has to meet the mouse’s endless series of desires. The kindness and patience of the boy as he meets each of the mouse’s requests is a central talking point. A connection that occurred to me and to several other reviewers is the similarity between the helpfulness of the boy as he meets the unending requests of the mouse to a mother meeting the endless and sometimes circular requests of a child. Sound familiar?

In fact, it is that connection that leads to the Reading Comprehension Best Practice selected for this book: Activating Prior Knowledge/Making Connections. If You Give a Mouse a Cookie is read in many PreK – Grade 1 classrooms for its connection to additional Reading Comprehension Best Practices such as Making Predictions and Sequencing.
How about making sure that you have some milk and cookies handy as you sit down to enjoy this book the Practickle way!
